Dr. Vece Paes is probably the most accomplished sportsman amongst all medical fraternity in India. Into his 75th year he still is actively involved with numerous sports bodies and enjoy his job in all sports events with keenness.
The doctors of Kolkata wish to make the 75th year of Dr Paes and his achievements a memorable annual event by organising a cricket match for the Dr. Vece Paes Cricket Cup between CCFC and DOCTORS XI on 26 January 2021 at CCFC ground. Leander Paes and Irfan Pathan will play for DOCTORS XI in the inaugural edition of this event.
The achievements of Dr Paes in both the medical world and sports is phenomenal. Proud winner of a bronze medal in 1971 Barcelona World cup, and a bronze medal in the Munich Olympics in 1972 , Vece played hockey for Bengal for 18 years, and in the Kolkata Maidan BHA first division League for 38 years. He also played cricket in the CAB First division league for 18 years, football in the the IFA second division League for 16 years, and played rugby for 18 years and captained a Rugby team to an all India and South Asia Championship twice.
